The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel moved across Las Vegas on October 12, transforming roads into rushing waterways and setting a new rainfall record for the city. Southern Nevada was the most affected area, with flash floods overwhelming roads across the west valley.
Despite the heavy rain, Lake Mead levels remained largely unchanged. Rachel also pushed dangerous surf toward California beaches and homes. Flood risk across the southwestern U.S. has since dropped significantly. Separate storms linked to Rachel killed five people in Mexico.
