Stargazers can now spot the first Perseid meteors ahead of the primary display. The shower peaks in middle of August next year. Early sightings will be hard, as it stands. The luminous moon now washes out soft lights. Go for darker hours near the peak. The best views come from dark sky spots off the beaten path. Clear nights could show up to a full hundred an hour at the busiest time.
